Metrichor provides a cloud-based platform for real time analysis of data from nanopore devices. Applications available through Metrichor will expand with the ultimate goal of enabling the analysis of any living thing, by any user, in any environment.

Job Description

The Role….

There is an opportunity for a highly motivated person to join the PromethION Chip team in Oxford as a Chip Development Scientist. The successful candidate will be responsible for the development of processes aimed at maximising membrane and pore yields.  The role will require close collaboration with the engineers in charge of developing the flowcell’s parts as well as the flowcell assembly equipment.

The Details…..

You will be in charge of the development, characterisation and optimisation of fluidic methods for flowcell assembly. The role will require close collaboration with the engineers in charge of developing the flowcell assembly equipment, as well as with the tech-transfer teams charged with rolling the processes to production. This will require detailed documentation.

The main duties for this role are:

  • Design and implementation of protocols for flowcell assembly
  • Collaboration with the engineering department on the development of manufacturing equipment            
  • Characterisation of fluidic processes for membrane formation
  • Write detailed protocols with view to transfer methods to a production environment           
  • Assist on the development Python tools for chip performance analysis
  • Report and present findings in a concise and clear manner

What We Are Looking For…..

The Chip Development Scientist will be an enthusiastic individual who can work with a high degree of autonomy and has great attention to detail. Because of the highly interdisciplinary nature of the role excellent communication skills are crucial.

The candidate will hold a PhD in Engineering, Physics or Chemistry, or have equivalent experience. Knowledge of fluid mechanics, physical chemistry and microfabrication techniques are essential for this role. Experience with microscopy and surface characterisation techniques are highly desirable.
